Gallia, an immersive training app at Air France
L'École de design Nantes Atlantique is exploring the applications of immersive design in aviation training programs with Air France.
During a sprint conducted in partnership with Air France’s VR Lab, students in the Digital Design master’s program designed an immersive experience dedicated to training cabin crew and crisis response team members, leveraging the potential of virtual reality. This sprint was part of a design-based experimentation phase aimed at co-creating and refining concrete implementations of these use cases.
Outside of traditional product development cycles, this approach makes it possible to quickly bring ideas to life through storyboards, prototypes, and simulations.
It has three objectives:
- to understand the role of design in virtual reality
- to represent future needs in a tangible way
- to accelerate internal adoption
The "Gallia" project was one of the proposals developed by the students. This immersive application allows for a 360° exploration of an airplane cockpit, featuring:
- a faithful reproduction of the environments
- scripted educational missions
- individualized guidance
- training in technical procedures under near-real conditions.

This project was presented this year at Laval Virtual, the premier international event for immersive technologies in April 2026.
This practical collaboration, which provided our students with valuable professional experience, even led to one of them being hired on an apprenticeship contract at the Air France VR Lab!
