L’École de design Nantes Atlantique

On September 14, 2012, 75 students were admitted to the first session of the Master’s Degree in Design, which was held in parallel in Nantes and Shanghai.

On Thursday, September 13th, 76 students took the final oral examination to complete their Design degree certified by the French Ministry of Higher Education. For 15 students, this oral defense took place in Shanghai, in English, under the supervision of Chris Ebbert, Head of Studies in Shanghai and Bangalore, and Enno Hyttreck, course leader for the Transcultural Design Master’s program in Shanghai. The board of examiners carried out their deliberations via videoconference with the Shanghai panel members. Eleven students who had completed the Transcultural Design Master’s program in Bangalore, presented their oral defense in Nantes, also in English, before an international examining board in the presence of their course leader in India, Kshitiz Anand. The examining board is made up of a selection of professional designers, entrepreneurs and institutional representatives from outside the school. The students are assessed on the following basis:

- continuous assessment throughout the program and during the oral defense of the final degree project which takes place in the first semester of the final year. This exercise must demonstrate their management skills and their expertise in the chosen field of the Master’s program.

- a final oral defense to demonstrate the student’s ability to plan and prepare for their professional career.

75 students obtained their degree, some of them subject to passing the TOEIC exam (see list below) and the board of examiners made special mention of their professionalism, as well as their ability to defend the role of design in economic, social and cultural domains.

The results were announced on Friday, September 14th by Nathalie Ciprian, Course Leader for the postgraduate curriculum and Jocelyne Le Bœuf, Director of Studies, in the presence of the examining board co-ordinators and Mr. Jean-Pierre Brechet, professor at l’Institut d’Economie et de Management (IEMN-IAE) of l’Université de Nantes and chairman of the board.

A second examining board session will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2012 for students pursuing a double degree, in management at l’IEMN-IAE and in virtual reality at Arts et Métiers Angers-Laval.

The graduation ceremony will be held on December 6th at the Fleuriaye Theatre in Carquefou.
